SpidermanHYPE.com reviews The Making of: TGGLS

In March 2000, SpiderManHYPE.com made contact with Dan Poole regarding his video 'The Green Goblin's Last Stand". SpiderManHype.com (SMH) was the premier web site for news and rumors about the SONY Spider-Man movie. Since this review was published SMH has expanded and become SuperHeroHYPE.com - The TGGLS review is reprinted here in it's entirety.

"Dan Poole's Self Help Film School"

nodanceposter_final2.jpg (32822 bytes)If you are reading this you are familiar with Dan Poole's Spider-Man video, THE GREEN GOBLIN'S LAST STAND. Produced, written, starring and directed by Dan eight years ago at a cost of nearly $500.00. This video has attained CULT status on the Internet and at comic conventions in the past few years. Mistakenly considered a student-film, it is anything but…

Now Dan Poole and his 'merry-men' of Alpha Dogs have put together a documentary video entitled THE MAKING OF THE GREEN GOBLIN'S LAST STAND. This video goes behind the scenes of the production of one man's dream do make the ultimate Spidey flick. Its all here - the suit, the masks, the stunts, the explosions and the bruises. If you have seen the video you know that when it's over you say to yourself, as I did "this guy is nuts, I want more!" The making of this cult video features interviews with the cast and crew involved with the production of TGGLS and has many insightful antidotes from Dan himself about the trials and tribulations of independent filmmaking.

Watching TGGLS the viewer comes away with a sense that it is a very ambitious attempt to bring the real Spider-Man to life, granted it does have its technical flaws due to the nearly non-existent budget, but this is overshadowed by the shear fact this is a great Spidey adventure. If you marveled at Dan in full Spidey gear swinging several stories up on a web, now you can see how it was done. As if one take weren't enough you see Dan swing over and over again until it's just right. Watching every swing knowing there is NO harness, NO safety equipment just makes it all the more impressive to see the lengths at which one man will go for his dream! To be SPIDER-MAN.

Dan Poole has fulfilled a life long dream with his production, and this is more of a testament of one man's determination to follow that dream and make it a reality. The MAKING OF THE GREEN GOBLIN'S LAST STAND, stands on it's own as a well crafted documentary, the added bonus is it's got Spidey in it.
